AME Product Development Solutions (Prototyping) are having great success with one of the unsung heroes of Rapid Prototyping.

The Sanders Modelmaker II is a 3D printer, taking 3D CAD to create high tolerance, high accuracy parts in a short time.

The parts are built in "wax" which can then be Lost Wax investment cast.

Not only ideal for Jewelery and the like, but also for small to medium sized engineering parts can be manufactured to an accuracy currently unavailable with other prototyping techniques.

Parts are built with layers starting at 0.05mm to 0.12mm depending on the detail required.

In many cases, the fine resolution of the part eliminates the need for post machining.

AME have had success also using the Wax part as a pattern for soft tooling for Vacuum Casting parts, where other techniques would fail due to dimensional limitations.

The Sanders Modelmaker II wax patterns are also excellent at creating metal inserts for low volume or "bridge to production" Rapid Tooling.
