The Plastics Industry Awards (PIA) is the industry's first awards initiative to successfully recognize and celebrate achievements in the UK plastics industry.
The awards are divided into four main categories; supplier, processor, product and people - thus representing all facets of the industry.
AME was short listed as one of six finalists from over 70 applicants in the Product Design of the Year category.
This award aims to identify the most innovative plastics product and/or product design.
The entries were judged on various criteria including; material selection, ergonomics, aesthetics, fitness for purpose, design for manufacture, speed to market, market reception and design for sustainability.
The product for which AME was selected is a Chisel Scabbard designed on behalf of Record Tools for the DIY market.
What made this project award winning material was Designsolutions innovative interpretation of the brief.
The scabbard, although complex in design, is in essence a simple and effective product, which incorporates a number of value adding features including re-usable 'packaging', which made it particularly attractive to the target market.
By working with AME to produce an end-to-end solution for their packaging problem, Record Tools actually achieved far more than they originally anticipated with pre-Christmas sales surpassing all expectations.
"One year on and the Designsolutions team has achieved a great deal," comments Chris Gurr, head of design.
"Whilst building up our client portfolio we've also designed the company website and developed AME's corporate image.
Being nominated as a finalist at The Plastics Industry Awards has definitely put the icing on the cake for us!".
