Networking module cuts costs
The XPort Direct allows a wide range of machines to be managed and controlled remotely over a network and represents the next wave of M2M adoption.
Modules provide easy wireless M2M communications
The MOD170 and MOD190 are the latest additions to the range of Sagem modem modules exclusively distributed in the UK by Alpha Micro Components.
Design engineers wanting to enhance products by adding networking capabilities will be delighted with the introduction of the XPort, measuring just 34 x 16 x 13mm.
Including a 10Base-T/100Base-TX autosensing Ethernet connection, a reliable operating system, an embedded web server, flexible firmware, a full TCP/IP protocol stack, email alerts and optional 128bit standards-based (AES) encryption, the XPort eliminates the complexity of creating a LAN device.
Everything designers need to add network connectivity is incorporated into the XPort's compact design to enable them to "drop" the XPort into a circuit, where previously a serial port would have been fitted.
Graham Arnott, Product Specialist, Alpha Micro Components, explained, "The introduction of Lantronix's XPort will enable manufacturers to enhance their profitability by reducing the engineering risk and costs associated with adding networking capabilities to their products.
We are delighted to include the XPort as part of our range of serial conversion products, which allow Design Engineers to adapt existing platforms to various interfaces, including Ethernet, USB and GPRS." Based on Lantronix's DSTni chipset and extensive TCP/IP stack, the XPort provides Ethernet to serial conversion.
With the autosensing Ethernet connection and a 230Kbit/s serial UART back connection, this fixed function module enables existing designs to migrate to Ethernet with ease.
Lantronix is the first device-networking provider to offer the Rijndael encryption algorithm as an option in any of its device service products.
Rijndael is a candidate for the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and a federally mandated encryption method for any product purchased by a government agency.
For more effective remote monitoring and management of networked devices, the XPort also enables real-time email notification of a prescribed event or alarm on a device, demonstrating the powerful feature set that was incorporated into the device.
