Ametek Calibration Instruments has launched the PK II pneumatic deadweight tester.
Suitable for the laboratory or the field, the PK II can be used in batch production of pressure transducers and in fiscal metering in the oil and gas industry.
Using no electricity, water or oil in the measurement process, it is particularly suited to applications in hazardous areas.
The PK II is a ball-type pneumatic tester which produces pressure by applying force using a set of weights over a virtually frictionless ceramic ball floating on a layer of air within a stainless steel cylinder.
It is NIST traceable and accurate to +/-0.015 per cent, using stainless steel weights calibrated to international standard gravity at 9.80665m/s2.
Local gravity calibration is also available.
Small incremental weight sets are available to provide fractional output pressures.
The PK II tester operates in the range of 1 to 200kPa with a precision (repeatability) of +0.005 per cent of the indicated reading.
The instrument's built-in flow regulator automatically adjusts the input air flow to maintain the ball and weights in a float position.
The regulator also compensates for variations in pressure from the air supply, removing the need to adjust the supply during the test and providing an easy up-and-down scale calibration.
The instrument uses nitrogen or instrument-quality air, which is non-contaminating to virtually all processes, eliminating the need to clean instruments after calibration and before use.
A three-leg levelling system and bullseye-level reference allow easy setup, and the unit can be mounted on a tripod if required.
The tester has been designed to operate with the cover closed to eliminate wind effects during field operation.
