Air shut-off valve protects large engines
AMOT solved a problem for engine manufacturer MTU Friedrichshafen by answering the company's call for a hazardous-area version of the 250mm (10in) Speedtrap 4261 emergency air shut-off valve.
Needed for oil and gas platform engines on hazardous area duties, such as driving fire pumps, the valve is ATEX approved EX II 3G EExna IIC T4, Zone II.
A solenoid is controlled by a special electronic control module preventing too much surface temperature.
The new version maintains the tight shut-off that MTU valued and prevents the dangers of engine runaway and self-destruction caused by a diesel's potential to burn hydrocarbon vapours or other combustible matter, even after its fuel source has been closed.
Also valued by MTU was the valve's solid state sensing and control that increased reliability and robustness, while facilitating custom interfacing with controlling equipment to specific needs.
