Jim Hicks, Managing Director of Amplicon Liveline, the specialist distributor of IT and Instrumentation to Industry, agrees that Brighton is definitely the place to be for an electronics company!

With more and more business being conducted from the South Coast of the UK, Brighton and Hove has recently applied for, and been granted, City status as "The Place to Be" over 37 other prospective candidates.

Jim Hicks, Managing Director of Amplicon Liveline, the specialist distributor of IT and Instrumentation to Industry, agrees that Brighton is definitely the place to be for an electronics company, as Amplicon has been located in the City for nearly 30 years, and has certainly benefited from its location.

Simon Fanshawe, leader of the campaign and broadcaster and chairman of Surf 107.2, the local radio station, says: "Amplicon is precisely the sort of high technology clicks and mortar B2B company which thrives in our City.

From humble beginnings in a Hove mews to its present modern building on the Centenary Industrial Estate in Brighton, close to the city's two Universities, the company is an excellent example to the various new start ups and inward investor businesses which are getting going here right now.

It just goes to show the talent which abounds in our new City by the sea, of which there is plenty more to draw on." There has been a heightened awareness of the Hi-Tech City during the course of this campaign, which is now developing further into "The Place to be - where entrepreneurs come to start up a business".

There is an enormous new media sector in Brighton supported by creative design talent alongside a steady flow of technical graduates from both Sussex and Brighton Universities and supported by Brighton College of Technology.

With all this expertise on-site it is only natural that a wealth of new products and services in the Hi-Tech industry are coming online.

In addition Wired Sussex exists as a business support organisation in Brighton to help companies like Amplicon make maximum use of the Internet both on the customer and supply side of the business.

It is expected that the publicity generated from the bid will encourage more companies to locate to Brighton as they, like Amplicon did many years ago, realise it is "The Place to Be" in business in the 21st Century.
