Amplicon has recently added a portable rugged tablet PC to its product range Ideal for both office and field applications, it can be combined with a docking station to perform as a desktop, and negates any of the usual problems associated with the changeover from desktop to laptop

The CA35 features a 600MHz Intel Mobile Pentium III processor, and also includes an Intel 440BX chipset, and memory capacity of 320MB SDRAM.

A built-in 3D audio controller is provided on both the tablet PC and docking station.

With an 8-wire resistive touch screen LCD display, of either 12.1 inch SVGA or 13.3 inch XGA resolution, the CA35 has been designed to meet MIL-STD-810E ratings in an IP51 enclosure, and with this rugged design still manages to have a modern, clean look.

It measures 331 x 293 x 47mm and weighs 3.7Kg The unit includes an integral PCMCIA slot supporting PCMCIA devices of types I and II, providing a variety of additional functionality for data, GPS, wireless LAN, bluetooth or phone cards.

There is also the option for either a 56k baud fax modem or 10/100 base LAN connection.

Another standard feature is a Lithium Ion battery.

A secondary battery expansion bay also supports hot swapping so the CA35 can be continuously used when these two battery units are combined with external mains or a car battery charger.

The docking station enables the tablet PC to be clamped firmly into place, and provides additional data capacity via a floppy disk drive and CD/DVD ROM.

All I/O ports available on the tablet PC are also located at the rear of the docking station, whilst the single link between the two is the 160-pin docking interface connection.

Utilising the docking station clamps the CA35 firmly in place, and enables an end user to adjust the viewing angle of the unit.

With the addition of an IR keyboard the CA 35 then provides the same functions as a desktop PC.

For extra security the unit may also be mounted and bolted to a desktop.

Ideal for those applications requiring outdoor use, as its flexibility allows the end user simply to remove the tablet PC from the docking systems, as a standalone unit it is also capable of running bespoke menu driven applications.

Other typical applications include warehouse stock checking and control, sales presentations, mobile EPOS, data collection and network systems analysis.
