Amplicon has a new range of versatile serial communications driven data collection terminals.

Amplicon has a new range of versatile serial communication driven data collection terminals, suitable for applications including shop floor data collection, operator HMI, machine monitoring, downtime reporting and access control The ELX series of terminals may be used over RS232, RS485 and RS485 multidrop links

Each model is easily customisable, as the front panel design can be changed completely by the end-user, simply by issuing a CorelDraw file as a template.

To match this, the keys may also be reprogrammed to represent an ASCII string or character.

A clear four line by 20 character display with jumper selectable backlight allows usage under any lighting conditions.

Every ELX unit has an I/O option, which provides four optoisolated digital inputs that double as 32bit counters, and two relay outputs.

As two of the inputs are non-volatile, the ELX units will still be able to sustain a count in the event of a power failure.

Most terminals are typically panel mounted, however a wall mount option is available which features an O-ring seal offering IP65 protection.

Manufactured in highly durable metal cases, certain models have the facility for an onboard barcode/swipe reader, thereby providing a one-stop solution.

The keyboard is a 25 key tactile, sealed model and operates between 0 and 55C.

RS485 versions allow "multidropping" to several units.

An individual PC may therefore control up to 64 of the ELX terminals creating a cost-effective solution for a network of data input terminals - ideal for shop floors.

A multidrop system unit (MSU) can additionally be purchased to poll large networks of ELX's and only transfer data to the PC when a remote terminal has data to send.

This reduces the overhead on the host PC considerably and minimises software development time.

Used in conjunction with Amplicon's NPort Express serial to Ethernet convertor, the ELX series also allows network based data entry, obviating the need for extra cabling, and providing a more stylish solution.

All units are CE approved, and Amplicon offers free technical support, including freelance programming for any software requirements.
