Acquisition boards aid PXI migration

An Amplicon product story

New additions to the DAQ2000 range of data acquisition boards include PXI versions, with complimentary chassis and controllers for test and measurement, industrial control and data acquisition applications.

As PXI is becoming ever more popular, emerging as the multivendor open industrial specification for such applications, Amplicon can offer high performance products at an affordable price.

The cPXIS-2100 instrument chassis series for 3U PXI and CompactPCI provides end users with the benefits of Pentium III processors, Ethernet and USB connectivity, a 6.4in LCD, seven PXI peripheral slots for the PXI boards offered, and auto switched 250W power supply, all within one 19in rack-mount, portable or benchtop chassis.

The chassis includes support for 32 and 64bit CompactPCI cards with one system controller and a filtered, forced air cooling system.

In addition, a PXI trigger bus is available to all slots.

This bus defines eight trigger lines that can be used in a number of ways, such as the synchronisation of operation of several different PXI modules.

Triggers may also be passed from one module to another to achieve deterministic responses to asynchronous external events.

Two additional buses, the PXI local bus and star trigger bus are also available, as well as a 10MHz system reference clock.

Amplicon also offers the cPCI-3700A/CC controller for PXI.

The CompactPCI controllers are compatible with PXI as the additional signal lines do not interact with the controller and PXI is backwardly compatible with CompactPCI boards.

The controller is a CompactPCI Pentium III CPU Module with VGA/LCD/Ethernet.

With its standard 3U form factor, it supports up to FC-PGA Pentium III CPU at 850MHz.

A 144 pin SO-DIMM socket supports up to 256Mbyte RAM.

The controller features an inbuilt 2.5in low profile HDD with a separable slim-type floppy drive module.

The data acquisition board family consists of three ranges: simultaneous sampling, high performance multifunction and high performance analogue output boards, each with two or three daughterboard variants.

End users can retain the same application software program, without code modification, when migrating from standard PCI architecture to PXI /CompactPCI architecture.
