Amplicon Liveline has recently celebrated 30 years as a distributor and manufacturer of industrial electronics products.

Amplicon Liveline has recently celebrated 30 years as a distributor and manufacturer of industrial electronics products, demonstrating that UK companies continue to be successful in the electronics business Since its formation in 1973, Amplicon has developed into a highly regarded company, serving many high profile customers in a wide range of fields

With a 30-year record of continuous growth and year on year profits, the company is predicting turnover of GBP 6 million in the current financial year ending 30th June 2003, which represents a 12% growth on the previous year.

To celebrate its birthday, all staff recently attended a party to commemorate the event, where Jim Hicks MBE, cofounder and Chairman, gave a congratulatory speech on the achievement and encouraged everyone to continue with the hard work to promote further expansion.

Mike Wood, MD, reinforced this message, as he commented: "Achieving our 30 year anniversary proves how possible it is to build and grow a business in the electronics industry if the right skills are applied.

With the dedication of our team of highly skilled and dedicated staff, our long term goals include achieving a turnover of GBP 10 million and beyond in the next few years, as well as looking forward to another 30 years in business".

Originally established in 1973 as Amplicon Electronics, a UK distributor of US-made electronic equipment, the company then expanded to manufacture its own brand digital panel meters including the world's first IEEE488 model.

10 years on, the company had grown to such an extent that a new building on Centenary Industrial Estate in Brighton was purchased to meet its needs.

1987 saw a key change in strategic direction as the company rebranded to Amplicon Liveline and took on a new objective as a rapid-response, catalogue-based company, focusing on sales and marketing, while continuing to manufacture own products, including data acquisition and communications devices.

The following years saw various standards attained including Investors in People (IiP) and ISO9002 for manufacturing.

Its website was launched in 1996 and shortly afterwards ISO9001 covering both manufacturing and distribution was achieved.

Amplicon moved to its current 1650m2 premises in 1998 as the company continued to expand and a major investment programme commenced as business levels continued to rise.

The website has since been instrumental to the company's success and has been continuously redeveloped to stay at the forefront of secure online ordering, recognised by Hicks as a critical service to offer customers.

Mike Wood joined as MD in 2001 enabling Hicks to take on the role of non-executive Chairman.

A major restructuring of the company into five specialist areas was one of Wood's first challenges coupled with an ambitious recruitment drive.

More recently he has committed to an investment of GBP 250,000 over the next 2-3 years towards the upgrading and refurbishment of the company offices, engineering and warehouse facilities as well as computer technology, ensuring that Amplicon remains at the leading edge for the future.
