CAD package is exclusive to electrical engineers

An Amtech Power Software product story

ElcoCAD is a new and innovative purpose designed CAD package exclusively for electrical engineers.

Available now from Amtech, elcoCAD is a new and innovative purpose designed CAD package exclusively for electrical engineers.

Electrical designers and consultants who use a CAD system know full well the frustration when producing electrical drawings.

The time it takes to produce the drawing, keeping track of cables and circuits when changes are made, producing and updating component lists, producing bill of quantities etc.

Now Amtech Power Software has launched elcoCAD, a brand new electrical CAD system to end all these problems.

elcoCAD is a specialist AutoCAD application designed specifically for electrical engineers.

It has been designed to "make CAD easy", with links to industry standard software enabling faster, more productive working.

Anyone currently using AutoCAD will immediately be familiar with the working environment: they do not have to learn a completely new system.

Existing AutoCAD symbols can be imported direct to a drawing with the elcoCAD "click and learn" feature.

A powerful link to Dialux and Relux provides lighting calculations and 3D visuals and elcoCAD comes with a bidirectional interface to NavisWorks for full clash detection.

When a clash situation arises the software takes the user directly to the relevant area on the drawing so the problem can be resolved immediately.

While working in 2D-plan view, elcoCAD automatically maintains a comprehensive, spatially correct 3D model in the background.

This makes 3D on demand an easy route to 3D CAD without having to face the learning curve for native 3D CAD techniques.

This powerful software has been designed to save the electrical engineer time.

This starts with the drawing environment which include features such as: automatic creation of cable trays in 2D and 3D, automatic positioning and alignment of lamps and a full range of symbols.

At any stage in the process users can select 3D on demand, to produce 3D views with just a few clicks.

Another essential feature is automatic circuiting.

After simply assigning symbols to circuit lines in the cable manager, circuit lines are then generated by just clicking on one button.

If circuits then need changing later, the changes are instantly reflected in the drawing.

Also when the labelling of cables needs changing this also changes corresponding labels throughout whole drawing with one click.

These two features alone could save the engineer hours of tedious work.

elcoCAD links to Amtech's ProDesign software to give the combined power of 3D drawing and electrical calculation.

Data are exported into ProDesign to enable the project to be calculated to BS7671.

Protective devices, cables and busbars can be selected from a vast database included in ProDesign.

A protection study can then be carried out with Amtech's Protect software to check discrimination.

This unique feature allows users to test the integrity of their physical designs.

It has become increasingly apparent that today's electrical industry demands the kind of transparency and flexibility which goes way beyond traditional CAD offerings, elcoCAD is the cutting edge solution to the growing demands and high expectations of electrical engineers and consultants.

To accompany the launch Amtech has produced a brochure for electrical engineers and contractors.
