Patch panels add structure to cabling

System protects critical data in harsh environment
The AMP Netconnect EtherSeal connectivity system is designed to protect critical data communication in harsh environments.
Its prime objectives are to expand international business opportunities for its members, liberalise telecommunication markets, and develop a 'standards-led' industry dedicated to customer satisfaction.
The election of AMP Netconnect, a major supplier of structured cabling systems for data networking, is seen as a significant step forward for both organisations.
TIA has provided an increased interest in support to the network cabling industry in recent years, and by involving leading manufacturers is planning to take a lead in establishing standards for the sector.

Secure jack catches on in networking
Sales of the AMP Netconnect MT-RJ secure jack connector have exceeded 50,000 since its commercial introduction in January 2001.
Reflecting this new emphasis, the TIA has recently expanded its Cable Group into three sections covering commercial building network infrastructure, residential buildings and public networks.
It has also formed close alliances with key standards bodies in the United States, including the EIA/TIA and BICSI, in an initiative designed to ensure consistency of standards and qualifications on both sides of the Atlantic.
This process includes the development of the TIA-Q Quality System for cabling contractors, which is an ISO 9000 recognised standard allowing contractors' personnel to qualify as RCDDs (Registered Communications Distribution Designers).
The intention is that every contractor will have to employ at least one RCDD.
Alan Cobb, Director-General of the TIA, is very positive about the benefits that companies like AMP Netconnect bring to the organisation: 'By involving major manufacturers we are able to draw on their expertise in setting the standards which are becoming increasingly important in all areas of telecommunications', he comments: 'and from a practical point of view their knowledge of the real environment into which cabling is installed helps us to interpret standards into a form that contractors can actually use.' Julian Riley, Business Manager AMP Netconnect, is equally enthusiastic about the company's membership of the TIA: 'The TIA is a highly professional body that not only enables suppliers to work together and put competitive issues to one side - it also has real authority in its dealings with other national and international bodies.
By bringing together the expertise of major players, it can have a significant effect on the future shape of the industry.'.
