Measurement and control specialist ACI (Europe) reports a healthy start to the year with Q1 turnover up by 34% on budget, 21% higher than the same period last year and 50% higher than Q4 2002.

While "this year's budgets reflect the tough trading conditions", says ACI (Europe) Managing Director, Phil Goulding, "the increases in particular have been generated by our companies' measuring DROs and glass linear encoder systems".

"For example, sales of certain measurement systems have achieved significant increases in both the UK and Eastern Europe", he comments, "including a high-volume DRO order from the Ukraine".

"Last year we made some tough decisions and restructured, and now all the companies under the ACI (Europe) umbrella are benefiting from that consolidation programme", Goulding concludes.

"We wouldn't suggest it is boom time - indeed sales levels are some way below those of three years ago - but we are pleased with this result and cautiously optimistic about the future in what remain extremely tough conditions for everybody".
