Repacement drive puts reservoir back on stream
Alstom Power Conversion was approached by Morrison Utility Services, working for Southern Water Services, to help out in an emergency situation at Yalding, in Kent.
In order to meet and exceed new environmental and planning requirements on dewatering and augmentation pumping ("smooth" pumping rather than "block" pumping), it was necessary to install a variable speed drive to control start-up, running, and shut down.
It was also important to vary the flow rates by a more efficient solution than the original throttling valve system.
After considering a number of inverter manufacturers, Foster Yeoman selected the Alspa MV3000 due to its price and availability, together with the exceptional level of support historically provided by Alstom.
Glyn Ratcliffe, Alstom's Drives Sales Manager said: "Installation was carried out without any difficulties and the equipment has provided an impressive 20% saving on running costs to date.
In addition, the drive has allowed Foster Yeoman to control and fine-tune the pumping operation via a PC connection".
Alstom is also able to provide a complete service and support package including: consultancy, free energy saving surveys, installation, commissioning, and an unbeatable service contract scheme that can be tailored to meet individual site requirements.
