ATI announces explosives and modeling course

An Applied Technology Institute product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 19, 2009

The Applied Technology Institute has announced a course for technical and administrative professionals in aerospace, defence, explosives technology and modeling.

The four-day course is being offered to the public on Jan 25-29, 2010 in Beltsville, Maryland, and will introduce shock waves and review performance, detonation, hazards and vulnerabilities of explosives and propellants.

In addition, attendees will get hands-on computer experience using modeling codes for evaluating explosive and propellant performance.

Applications for explosives and propellants range from rockets on nuclear submarines, space shuttles, solid rockets, missiles and more conventional weapons like the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) bunker buster, a GBP30,000 non-nuclear guided bomb.

Still in development by the US Air Force, the MOP will act as a deterrent to burying illicit weapons program facilities while increasing the US's ability to destroy those that already exist.

Mader's Explosives Technology Modeling course directly relates to the new generation of technology developments like the MOP bunker buster.

A secondary audience for the course is administrators, managers and decision makers who require a basic understanding of explosives and propellants.

There will also be a review of the history of explosives and propellants through to the current state of the technology.
