Functional safety explained
A new guide explaining all you need to know about functional safety is now available from ABB.
Dual compartments protect temperature transmitters
The TTF350 temperature transmitter is suitable for heavy-duty applications in industries such as oil and gas, power, cement, waste incineration and chemical processing.
The TF202 is a field-mounted device that can be mounted remotely from the temperature sensor.
Universal sensor connectivity for both devices enables connection to a combination of sensor types.
The TF02/202 also benefits from FISCO (Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept) registration, which simplifies installation in potentially explosive environments subject to the new ATEX Directive.
Further cost savings are available as FISCO allows more TF02/202 devices per segment, reducing the number of segments required and the need for associated equipment.
The number of devices on a segment can be further increased with the use of ABB's MultiBarrier Fieldbus distributor, which enables power to be distributed more effectively to devices in the field.
Compliance with the standard also simplifies the process of installing TF02/202 transmitters in hazardous areas by reducing the amount of safety documentation required.
A key benefit of the Foundation Fieldbus standard is its ability to distribute control functions into the field; the TF02/202 can therefore become part of such a control strategy whilst offering backup LAS (link active scheduler) functions too.
As a part of a control system, making use of Foundation Fieldbus and high speed Ethernet, the TF02/202 can provide timely updates of process information including device status and maintenance conditions.
Furthermore, as an ABB IndustrialIT product, TF02/202 transmitters can be linked with other ABB IndustrialIT enabled products to form a tightly integrated control system where information on device status can be accessed and controlled in real time onsite or via the Internet.
TF02/202 transmitters are suitable for applications within a wide range of industries, such as power and utilities, chemical and petrochemical, glass and ceramics, food and beverage, HVAC and automotive.
