Functional safety explained
A new guide explaining all you need to know about functional safety is now available from ABB.
Dual compartments protect temperature transmitters
The TTF350 temperature transmitter is suitable for heavy-duty applications in industries such as oil and gas, power, cement, waste incineration and chemical processing.
Furthermore, the ability to connect a single AV400 transmitter to two measuring systems can effectively cut the cost of an installation by 50%, providing a cost-effective solution for plants where there is more than one measuring point or where one unit is required to provide both "before" and "after" water treatment readings.
Also on display will be ABB's AquaMaster electromagnetic flowmeter, which features a revised transmitter design and built-in GSM technology, enabling remote access to flow data using SMS messaging.
Accompanying it will be examples of ABB's MagMaster and AquaProbe meters, plus ABB's Sensybar pitot and Sensyflow thermal mass meters.

Temperature sensors survive refinery environment
Each thermocouple head incorporates Type N protection of the sensor connections and nonsparking protection for hazardous zones where an explosive gas mixture is not expected, but could occur.
Electronic recorder provides easy data access
The SM1000 electronic recorder has eliminated the need for the company to sift through paper charts and has opened up new possibilities for interrogating and analysing recorded data.
Other exhibits will include ABB's SM series videographic data recorders and a host of equipment for pressure, level and temperature measurement.
ABB will also be running two seminars on the 19th and 20th October explaining how some of this equipment can be used in real-life applications.
The first seminar, entitled "Nitrate monitoring in potable water treatment" will be held at 1330 BST on Wednesday 19th October.
Presented by Hugh Lloyd, UK Analytical Product Manager, the seminar will explain the importance of accurate nitrate measurement and will highlight the technology available to water companies to help them achieve this.
The presentation will cover the factors that need to be considered when monitoring nitrate concentrations in water from various sources including boreholes, and the different techniques that can be used to ensure that the final water nitrate level is below the consent limit.
It will also refer to the use of UV nitrate measurement to monitor these processes, and the benefits that using ABB's new AV400 UV nitrate analysers can bring.
The second seminar, entitled "AquaMaster integrated SMS text logging", will take place on Thursday 20th October at 1330 BST.
Presented by Terry Mizzi, Regional Manager - Europe, the seminar will show how operators can eliminate the time, cost and potential errors traditionally associated with the manual collection of flowmeter information by using ABB's GSM-enabled AquaMaster electronic flowmeter.
Using the same technology as a mobile telephone, AquaMaster flowmeters can be contacted through a PC or laptop or through a mobile telephone via SMS messaging, providing operators with remote access to logged data.
