ABB expands range of electromagnetic flowmeters with Parti-Mag II.

ABB has expanded its range of electromagnetic flowmeters with the Parti-Mag II With improved sensor technology and microprocessor technology, the device is for partially full pipeline applications

It can measure the flowrate of slurries and liquids with electrical conductivities of at least 50uS/cm up to 10uS/cm in partially full and full pipeline applications.

Four pairs of electrodes mounted at various points within the flowmeter primary provide measurement of the flow rate to within +/-1% of rate with full pipe or +/-3% of rate for a partially full pipe.

Each pair is positioned so there is always an electrode in contact with the flow media, letting it be used across a wide flow range of between 0.5 and 10m/s.

A separate electrode is included to detect full-pipe conditions, providing accurate measurement even when the pipe is full.

To help eliminate the effects of noise on measurement accuracy, the flow signal is corrected using the partially full characteristic curves stored in the remote mounted microprocessor converter.

This signal is converted into a flowrate proportional output signal, which is then used to provide flowrate indication and totalisation in easy to read engineering units which appear as clear text on the converter display.

This display can also show other details such as parameter settings, alarm conditions and error diagnostics, which also appear as clear text.

The improved signal quality produced by the microprocessor technology means there is no need for the converter to be routinely reset to zero to ensure continued accuracy, enabling it to offer absolute zero stability.

Programming the converter unit can be achieved via the pushbuttons on the local control panel.

Alternatively, the 4-20mA output can be connected to a standalone PC or process control system, enabling remote control and monitoring.

Requiring straight pipe lengths of just five pipe diameters upstream and three pipe diameters downstream, the unit can be fitted into almost any location.

Fitting it into a pipeline is made easier by the quick coupling arrangement, which helps reduce installation time by eliminating the need for adapters or detachment parts.

The design of the meter also enables the meter pit depth to be reduced.

As the quick coupling bolts are fastened from the top side, less space is required than for a conventional flange coupling.

It is available with an Ex certificate for use in Zone One hazardous areas.
