Korean petrochemical company signs for
control
ABB has been selected by Korea's Yeochun NCC Co to upgrade the petrochemical company's Number 2 ethylene plant with 800xA integrated process control and safety system.
ABB has been selected by Korea's Yeochun NCC Co (YNCC) to upgrade the petrochemical company's Number 2 ethylene plant with 800xA integrated process control and safety system, to improve the facility's performance, in a strongly competitive environment YNCC selected ABB and System 800xA due to features such as integrated control, safety, advanced process/interlock visibility provided by the distributed control system's Aspect ObjectTM technology, and the ABB Device Library

Functional safety explained
A new guide explaining all you need to know about functional safety is now available from ABB.
Dual compartments protect temperature transmitters
The TTF350 temperature transmitter is suitable for heavy-duty applications in industries such as oil and gas, power, cement, waste incineration and chemical processing.
Using ABB's expertise and Device Library, YNCC expects that engineering will be simplified and made consistent across the solution, and will reduce commissioning costs.
Device Library objects not only ensure the best practice in device engineering and control, but automatically generate displays for operators of any interlocks that may be present that could delay production.
As a proven, fully supported ABB library, YNCC is assured that future upgrades and enhancements to the system software will be able to be implemented without issue and retesting.
This optimises YNCC's capital productivity not only for the initial installation, but over the lifecycle of the plant.
YNCC spokesperson explained that by going to ABB they would be minimising their risks being well aware of ABB's project execution capabilities and service ability and, moreover, the advanced functionality of 800xA.
The contract calls for three 800xA systems to operate the plant, which produces 550,000 tonnes/year of ethylene and BTX (benzene, toluene and xylene), and its utilities.
The three systems will consist of 28 process operation and engineering stations, 14 AC800M controllers, plus two AC800M Hi controllers for Safety applications.
Over 11,400 I/O points are involved.
Many of these signals will use Hart communication which will allow YNCC to apply inbuilt 800xA Hart Device Management capabilities to optimise maintenance of the plant.
Yeochun NCC Co is Korea's leading petrochemical company, currently capable of producing 1.46Mt of ethylene a year.
