ARM Engineering's Rail Division is celebrating its second birthday this week with continued success in the rolling stock industry.

ARM Engineering's Rail Division is celebrating its second birthday this week with continued success in the rolling stock industry.

Recruitment Consultants Will Parrett and Joanna Brown have noted a considerable change in clients' preferences, with a shift towards permanent staffing.

This shows the shift from the use of high volume contract labour to an emphasis being placed on training staff with transferable skills from other industries.

Monitoring trends in rail recruitment, the team have noticed a marked surge in the amount of permanent roles on offer in the industry, particularly in depot based positions, where over 80% of roles available through ARM are on a permanent basis.

Although in rolling stock design the split remains 50/50 between permanent and contract work, maintenance and depot workers are being offered more permanent opportunities, reflecting the current strength of the industry, and also underlining the Centre for Rail Skills' campaign to make a career in rail more desirable to school leavers.

Rail Consultant Will Parrett stated: "The results of our study reflect the shift of investment in the industry in recent years, and demonstrate the commitment from employers to secure staff with a focus on long term success".

Given their close ties to industry bodies such as Link-Up, and their commitment to customer service which includes reference checking for employers and health and safety checks for employees, the rail team will continue to build new relationships and expand as the most professional service to employers and employees alike.
