The twin benefits of improved operator safety and greater safeguarding of machinery are provided by Asco Joucomatic's new range of dynamic and static rod-locking devices, the latter with integrated manual unlocking.

The new devices enable the piston rods of loaded cylinders to be locked in any position in the event of pressure loss, preventing any movement due to load.

The design of Asco Joucomatic's new static cylinder rod lock is unique, integrating four essential features that set it apart from competitive designs on the market.

First, the locks are provided with an easily accessible manual unlocking system for the two fixed cylinder positions (i.e extreme retracted or extended).

This is easy to operate (via three or four turns of a key) and works even if there is no compressed air supply.

Secondly, a startup interlock system prevents restarting of the cylinder when the manual override is in the disengage position.

As a result, repressurisation is accomplished safely with minimal risk to the operator.

Thirdly, by offering the facility of connecting a 3/2 pilot solenoid, the design provides a system that is ready for immediate use.

The function of the 3/2 valve is twofold: to improve the locking response time, and also safety overall, as a result of preventing any creeping of cylinder mounted loads.

Finally, the static rod locks can be equipped with a magnetic or electromechanical detection function to monitor the position of the manual lock-up override and provide an autonomous signal without recourse to a PLC.

The static rod locks are supplied mounted on double-acting cylinders with diameters between 32 and 100mm (40 to 100mm for dynamic locks).

In common with dynamic rod locks, they fit to cylinders conforming to ISO6341, VDMA24562 and AFNOR standards, and offer the advantage of operating in any position, horizontal or vertical.

Purchasers of the new rod locks benefit from the security of a pre-delivery test procedure undertaken by Asco Joucomatic.

As part of this procedure, each individual lock is mounted and load-tested, enabling the user to install the equipment quickly, safely and economically.
