Having already certified nine engineers to date, the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is to run three further Certified AS-i Engineer training courses in 2003.

Due to the popularity of the recent courses, three new dates - 1st August, 19th September and 19th December - are planned at Manchester with a further two off-site courses expected to take place over the summer.

The one-day courses will again take place at the MMU's Fieldbus competency centre within the Engineering Department with delegates learning both the theory and practice of AS-i.

Using a hands-on, practical approach engineers learn how to use AS-i intelligent sensors, actuators and remote I/O in the most efficient and effective way, and see how to integrate AS-i into higher-level fieldbuses.

Delegates also build, configure and exercise their own AS-i system from scratch.

The course also includes an overview of the AS-i "Safety at work" profile which allows AS-Interface networks to be used in safety-critical systems such as emergency stop and machine protection systems.

High standards of competency are ensured by written and practical tests.

Successful graduates receive a Certified AS-i Engineer certificate.

The course is designed for engineers and technicians who are involved in the planning and installation of fieldbus networks.

No previous knowledge of AS-i is required.

However, even experienced fieldbus engineers will gain valuable knowledge on how to get the best from the technology.

The course costs GBP 375 per person, with a 20% discount for AS-Interface UK members.
