A new range of permanent magnet DC motors has been introduced by Astrosyn.

A new range of permanent magnet DC motors has been introduced by Astrosyn.

As well as being suitable for use in hoists and lifts, the motors in the AP range can be submersible, making them ideal for underwater applications and in bow thrusters for boats.

A novel feature is that the models can operate at speeds as low as 180rev/min, without the need for a gearbox.

This leads to savings in space and cost, quieter operation and reduced backlash.

"Unlike most other DC motors on the market", commented Simon Hunt, Astrosyn's technical sales director, "the AP range can be supplied in small to medium batch sizes.

As well as standard versions, the housings and shafts can also be customised to suit the application".

A further benefit is the motors' significant price advantage compared with others on the market.

Outputs are available from 180W to 3kW (3000rev/min), and enclosure ratings vary from IP40 to IP68.

Special coatings are available for the motor housings to cater for operation in harsh environments.

The motors have diameters of 120 or 140mm, and gearboxes, brakes and speed controllers can also be supplied.
