Astrosyn has a new heavy duty stepper motor for high torque applications in industrial machinery.

The unit overcomes the growing problem of damage being caused to shafts or flanges in arduous industrial motion control applications arising from the increased power made possible by the latest high torque, rare earth, hybrid stepper motors.

"In packaging machinery for example", explains Simon Hunt, Astrosyn's Technical Sales Director, "it is not uncommon for conventional hybrid stepper designs to suffer from this type of damage when excessive loads are placed on the motor".

The ruggedised model L706-1 is a 3A, 1ohm, eight-lead hybrid stepper with a step angle of 1.8 degrees.

The motor housing incorporates an ultra-robust 15mm thick Nema flange and the heavy-duty motor shaft has a 9.5mm diameter.

Its rare earth magnet design generates an exceptional bipolar holding torque of 165Ncm despite its size 23 frame size.

As well as for packaging machinery, the new motor is ideal for high load applications in the machine tool industry.
