Software simplifies front-end simulation

An Ansys product story

Ansys Europe has developed a new version of its flagship analysis software, Ansys 7.1.

Ansys Europe has developed a new version of its flagship analysis software, Ansys 7.1.

The latest version offers two new components that have been developed to make designing and analysing new products faster and easier, while permitting more design innovations to improve product quality and reduce time-to-market cycles.

The first new component developed for Ansys 7.1 is DesignXplorer VT which brings the power of variational technology (VT) to the designer's desktop, enabling users to visualise the effects of a multitude of simultaneously varying design parameters in a single solve.

DesignXplorer VT's proprietary variational technology offers the capacity to study, quantify and graph the structural analysis response to alternative design parameters for both linear elastic static stress and normal modes analyses.

With VT, users can approach product design decisions much more efficiently.

Depending on the analysis problem, VT can provide acceleration factors between 10 and several thousand.

When combined with the Ansys Workbench Environment, this powerful application allows designers and analysts to make intelligent design directives given multiple competing objectives.

Changes can include geometric CAD parameters as well as material properties and thicknesses.

The combination of DesignXplorer VT and the Ansys Classic Environment gives analysts have the ability to gain a detailed understanding of their designs.

The second new component in Ansys 7.1 is DesignModeler a concept-modelling tool that gives users a better way to approach the early stages of design for large, CAD-intensive structural projects.

DesignModeler allows the designer to work with mathematical abstractions of the physical world.

Supporting both beam and shell abstractions, concept modelling can begin with just lines and surfaces, as full solid models are not required.

Gary Carter, Ansys Europe's Managing Director, comments: "Ansys 7.1 provides product engineers with more data to make smarter decisions - and smarter decisions mean better products.

These new, robust, easy-to-use tools support engineering design and simulation capabilities early in the product development process, when design innovations are explored and most of the manufacturing costs are determined.

Meanwhile, the heart of Ansys 7.1 - Ansys Workbench Environment - offers a newly improved user interface, superior CAD integration, automatic meshing, and access to model parameters and other Ansys features".
