Finite element software updated

An Ansys product story

Structural finite element software for the offshore industry and hydrodynamic assessment software suite have added features.

Ansys has introduced ASAS 14 structural finite element software for the offshore industry, and Aqwa 5.6, a hydrodynamic assessment software suite.

Developed by Ansys' Century Dynamics group, ASAS introduces features such as a simple method for defining internal tank loading for vessels.

The nonlinear coupled wave-structure interaction facility has been enhanced with the addition of effective tension for curved tubular elements.

Also being shipped is a version of the modelling and results display system FEMGV v7, providing a different graphical user interface as well as introducing automated repair capabilities for CAD geometry imported into FEMGV.

Aqwa 5.6 introduces the ability to handle up to 50 connected structures, user defined multidirectional wave spectra and improved handling of irregular frequencies as well as standing waves.

"The latest releases of ASAS and Aqwa boast more capacity, more capability and more flexibility", said Naury Birnbaum, General Manager at Ansys and a founder of Century Dynamics.

"For example, Aqwa's ability to handle up to 50 articulated structures is a five-fold increase over the previous limit while the ASAS Toolkit has been extended enabling users to write more extensive special applications using ASAS results".
