NTC thermistors are interchangeable

An ATC Semitec product story

Devices in the AP Series of interchangeable NTC thermistors can readily be replaced by another of the same quality, without the need for instrument recalibration.

New from ATC Semitec is the AP Series of interchangeable thermistors.

The term "interchangeable" refers to a type of NTC thermistor that can readily be replaced by another of the same quality, without the need for instrument recalibration.

The accuracy of these NTCs can vary from +/-0.5 to +/-0.05K over a range of temperature, typically 0 to 70C.

To achieve this level of accuracy, the NTC element has to be fine-tuned by literally "hand grinding" against an abrasive wheel.

This procedure obviously raises the cost of this precision component and limits its application potential.

In an effort to reduce the manufacturing cost of this type of NTC and thus broaden its application appeal, Semitec has invested in materials and production technology and has recently produced the new AP series, using an ultrastable manufacturing process.

Using these mass-production techniques, the AP thermistor boasts an accuracy of +/-0.5K (from 0 to +70C) and an operating temperature range from -60 to +150C.

There is a range of nominal (R25) resistance values from 2 to 200kW.

The main benefit to the user is of course the pricing: it is typically half that of other Interchangeable thermistors of a similar accuracy.

Furthermore, the AP series is Pb-free and so meets the requirements of the RoHS and WEEE Directives.
