Autodesk has signed a global agreement with HBG, Hollandsche Beton Groep nv, a European construction firm with worldwide projects, for the purchase of a variety of Autodesk products

Autodesk announced today that it has signed a global agreement with HBG, Hollandsche Beton Groep nv, a European construction firm with worldwide projects, for the purchase of a variety of Autodesk products, including AutoCAD Architectural Desktop.

With this agreement, sales of AutoCAD Architectural Desktop (ADT), the premier tool for architectural design development and construction documentation, reach an installed-base of 100,000 seats worldwide.

This milestone confirms a growing industry trend toward object-oriented modelling, which offers the potential for significant productivity gains not only for architects but also for contractors, building owners, and facilities managers.

"At HBG, we realise that to improve and extend our position in the supply chain, we need to process data more efficiently across the enterprise and throughout the project life cycle," said Rob van Wingerden, director of HBG Bouw and Vastgoed, the company's Netherlands-based office active in property development, non-residential building, and housing.

"ADT is a robust and evolving platform that will assist us in our transition to 3D and 4D modelling.

We are confident that we will gain significant process benefits with this solution," added Wilfred van Woudenberg, CAD consultant at HBG's Group Technology staff department.

A total of three HBG groups, HBG Bouw and Vastgoed, HBG Construction, and HBG Civiel, will evaluate and deploy the ADT platform with the intention of integrating its use with other enterprise systems throughout the international company in the future.

"As object-modelling technology matures, increasing numbers of our customers are endorsing this new, smarter way of working that automates routine production tasks," said Phil Bernstein, FAIA, vice president of Autodesk's AEC Market Group.

"Reaching this milestone in just two years after Autodesk's first introduction of the Architectural Desktop platform is a significant achievement.

We are encouraged by this trend and believe that the transition from working with lines, arcs, and circles to intelligent architectural objects will have far-reaching implications for the design and construction industry.

HBG is a Netherlands-based European construction group specialising in all aspects of construction with projects worldwide.

The HBG Group offers products and integrated services ranging from consulting and engineering to maintenance and operations-in Europe, the United States, and other countries around the world.

The HBG Group anticipates a turnover in excess of 5 billion euro in 2000, of which approximately half will be realised in the building and property sector-including non-residential building, housing, and property development-and the remainder through civil engineering, dredging, and industrial activities.
