Extended libraries aid AutoCAD users

The i-drop Enhancer Extension is a modular enhancement to the i-drop functionality in AutoCAD 2002 and AutoCAD 2002-based products.

The i-drop Enhancer Extension is a modular enhancement to the i-drop functionality in AutoCAD 2002 and AutoCAD 2002-based products, including Autodesk Mechanical Desktop 6, AutoCAD Mechanical 6, Autodesk Map 5, Autodesk Land Desktop 6, and Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.3 i-drop is a powerful way for Autodesk customers to access libraries of design components and catalogues of approved standard parts

The technology uses a custom Microsoft ActiveX control to enable manufacturers and design professionals to publish and acquire design data using standard web pages.

The i-drop ActiveX control is used to transfer packages from the Internet or Intranet via a simple drag-and-drop operation into the design.

With the new i-drop Enhancer Extension, the power of i-drop technology is expanded with new right-mouse button drag-and-drop functionality, automatic URL attachment and activity logging.

Predrawn content (contained inside an i-drop package) can be inserted from the Web into drawings with a simple drag-and-drop operation, allowing users to be more efficient.

"Our product extensions are exclusively available to members of our subscription program, which has been running in the EMEA region since February 2002", says John Goodman, Autodesk.

"We now offer six 'platform' product extensions - these work with all AutoCAD 2002 based products.

We also offer four 'industry specific' extensions - these only work with predefined industry products, ie the Autodesk desktops and map applications.

These 10 extensions demonstrate our commitment to providing additional productivity boosting tools to our subscribers".

Web pages that contain i-drop packages can be designed to look and behave exactly like standard web pages in a standard web browser.

The packages can be any type of file that the content provider has made available and that the application will accept.

In addition to application specific content, i-drop packages can also contain associated data files, such as order forms or price sheets.

In conjunction with the announcement of i-drop Enhancer Extension, Autodesk has also moved the i-drop Centre to Point-A, a personal access point to a multitude of Autodesk products, services and information on the Internet.

This is in order to assist customers in locating i-drop-enabled content from manufacturers, as well as i-drop-enabling the popular symbols library on Point A. Request a free brochure from Autodesk ...
