Speedprint Technology reckons that the Autodesk Vault work-in-progress data management solution is saving its design team an average of half a day a week.

Speedprint Technology, a designer and supplier of printing machines for the printed circuit board industry, reports that the Autodesk Vault work-in-progress data management solution is saving its design team an average of half a day a week "Before using Vault we would search endless part numbers, various network paths and paper folders looking for information that is now held securely, but is quick and simple to find", says Shawn Haselgrove, Design Engineer

Because Vault is integrated with Autodesk Inventor Series, Autodesk Inventor Professional, AutoCAD Mechanical and AutoCAD Electrical, the only investment required is the minimal effort needed to implement the system.

This is quickly returned through a reduction in errors and in the amount of redundant or lost data, as well as through better support for re-using components and assemblies.

"We did research other data management solutions", says Haselgrove, who has been using Autodesk Inventor Series for two years.

"However, we found that due to the usual cost restraints of a small company, Vault would best suit our needs.

Once we had decided we had it working on the first day within a few hours".

Now, he says, Vault's version control eliminates the need to surf through endless network backups.

"We are also now able to play around with new ideas without effecting existing released designs and we now know that we can't change a design that others are working on.

Using Vault definitely saves us a significant amount of time and improves productivity".

Kevin Ison, Autodesk Business Manager, Manufacturing Solutions Division says that those using 3D manufacturing solutions are now recognising that to achieve real value from their data it needs to be well managed.

"However enterprise-level data management systems are often too complex and costly for smaller companies".

"They also take time to implement".

"Often the situation is becoming urgent".

"Vault can solve this problem".

"As it is part of Autodesk Inventor Series, designers can just start using it, without waiting for high level decisions to be made".

Jerry Bishop, Sales Director of Reseller CADlogic Scotland which supplied Speedprint with Autodesk Inventor Series agrees: "Speedprint had already been able to cut down its design time through using Inventor - for example, it has minimised the time taken to put designs into prototype".

"Now their design data is managed by Vault they are working even more efficiently - with no need for any extra investment".
