Young Engineers, a UK educational charity that aims to inspire young people to choose a career in engineering, has selected Autodesk as its preferred design software partner.

Autodesk has also become one of its sponsors, providing student and teacher licences of Autodesk Inventor Professional for winners of the organisation's regional events and at the annual National Celebration of Engineering.

Young Engineers supports UK teachers in setting up a national network of engineering clubs in both primary and secondary schools.

With over 26,000 members and 1200 active clubs in participating schools and colleges, the company also offers a variety of engineering challenges and competitions to further encourage young people to use their talents in this direction.

Young Engineers' Chief Executive, Stuart Ellins explains: "We've chosen Inventor because it is easy to use - as Autodesk's work with primary school children has already shown - and because Autodesk's objectives in education really dovetail with our own".

"Young people need to learn on tools that are actually being used in the wider world and by learning to design in 3D at this stage they will discover that engineering can be exciting and fun".

Alistair Brook, Autodesk Education Manager, Northern Europe agrees: "Across the UK, schools are embracing Inventor".

"Pupils love its ease-of-use and teachers find that it allows them to improve teaching and learning by extending both the coverage and depth of the use of CAD in the classroom".

"Schoolchildren as young as 11 are using Inventor with confidence within just a few hours".

"Now we are starting to see the software being used in primary schools to help teach 3D concepts".

"We are convinced that Inventor can make a significant contribution towards Young Engineers' goal to inspire young people to take up engineering".
