CAD system cuts design time

An Autodesk product story

Cogenco expects to halve the time taken to develop its units from eight to ten weeks to four weeks, using an Autodesk solution.

Cogenco is predicting a radical cut in design time after investing in a total Autodesk solution comprising Autodesk Inventor and Inventor Professional, Autodesk Productstream and AutoCAD Electrical.

It expects to halve the time taken to develop its units from eight to ten weeks to four weeks.

Mark Exeter, Cogenco Production and Design Manager, says that intensified focus on the need for more efficient power generation has led to a big increase in demand for its products.

CHP uses far more of the available energy in a fuel than traditional power or heat generation methods and therefore helps reduce carbon emissions.

"We expect savings to be made through the ability to review designs and detect clashes on screen and also, using Productstream data management solution, to re-use whole assemblies of Cogenco's modular designs", he says.

After considering all available market options, Cogenco decided that Autodesk was the only vendor that could provide a complete package, including an electrical design tool for developing its control systems.

It enables both 2D and 3D design and legacy AutoCAD data can be seamlessly migrated to the new system.

Chris Turner of Autodesk reseller MICE Solutions says that Cogenco is typical of a number of forward-looking and expanding customers who are opting for both a 3D modelling tool and data management solution to maximise the value of their design data.

"Using Inventor with Productstream is a fast route to big productivity gains and can help maintain a competitive edge in fast-moving sectors", he says.
