Citect is offering its Citect Alarm Paging System (CAPS), free of charge, to users of CitectScada.
Citect UK is offering its Citect Alarm Paging System (CAPS), free of charge, to users of CitectSCADA (offer is open to UK customers only for a three-month period).
The system enables an alarm generated from a Citect SCADA system, anywhere in the world, to be forwarded to the digital mobile phones of authorised operatives.
The receiver can then respond by acknowledging the alarm; he can read and write data (turn devices such as pumps, on or off) and change setpoints.
The CAPS system is the ideal tool for remote monitoring and control in an increasingly mobile world.
Providing greater interactiveness between control and monitoring systems and key operatives such as plant and maintenance managers, the paging system is an essential component in helping to optimise productivity and product quality.
CAPS allows users to benefit from the almost universal availability of telephone communications, ensuring that remote monitoring of supervisory and data acquisition systems is viable right across the board.
The system is designed to complement the alarm monitoring and alarm reporting features provided within CitectSCADA.
It can be configured to operate in a number of ways to suit various paging requirements.
All that is required by the user is access to an SMS service provider, a SIM card and a GSM modem.
"Remote monitoring of supervisory control and data acquisition systems is not a universal requirement across all systems, but with the growth of more on-line manufacturing systems that is set to change," says Paul Hurst, MD of Citect UK.
"The fact that we are supplying our CAPS system free of charge, and that telephone access is now almost universal, means that adopting this method of remote monitoring and control is both simple and extremely cost effective for the system user.
