Conversion tool speeds Scada changes

A Citect product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 12, 2005

A new conversion tool allows upgrades from one or multiple legacy Scada systems to the globally specified CitectScada with minimal configuration costs, time and effort.

Citect has introduced Switch2Citect, a conversion tool for Scada customers, which allows upgrades from one or multiple legacy systems to the globally specified CitectScada with minimal configuration costs, time and effort.

Initially, Switch2Citect provides upgrades from InTouch, Fix32, iFix, FactoryLink, with more upgrade paths planned for release in the near future.

The new conversion tool means that customers are no longer locked-in to their existing Scada systems.

Instead, they can take advantage of the world-class reliability, flexibility and scalability of CitectScada and enjoy the benefits of features available in the new V6 release, which offers the unique "Process Analyst", an integrated alarm and trend viewer and a fully functional web Client.

In addition, taking advantage of the latest Microsoft technologies, switching to CitectScada also allows customers to upgrade their operating systems.

With Switch2Citect, graphics and tag databases can be easily converted to a CitectScada system.

Configuration time of graphical displays is reduced from days to hours or even minutes.

This allows customers who are currently considering upgrading their existing system, to switch to CitectScada at a fraction of what it would have cost before the release of Switch2Citect.

"The longer manufacturers wait before upgrading their HMI/Scada software the less benefit it will deliver to their businesses and the more difficult it may be to upgrade", said Paul Hurst, Managing Director of Citect UK.

"Manufacturers need to think seriously about the future of their systems to remain competitive over the longer term".

"Choosing a reputable company that is known and respected worldwide, offers local support, has a clear roadmap and committed resources, while at the same time minimising the cost to upgrade their HMI/Scada system, will drastically reduce their risk".

Craig Resnick, Research Director of the highly regarded ARC Advisory Group, echoes Paul Hurst's key message.

"Manufacturers know that to remain competitive, they must upgrade their HMI/Scada system to meet the challenges of collaborative production, security and real-time performance management", says Resnick.

"This is why they seek tools that drastically shorten the time and cost of upgrading while allowing them to reap the benefits of these new technologies as quickly as possible".
