Breaking the mould
Tim Wright, IMD Manager at Autotype International, discusses the relative merits of a new process that is set to change the way we decorate products for good.
Installed by Bedford-based Creative Image Services and endorsed by the Oxford Association for the Blind, Autotype's FootPrint is a highly scratch- and slip-resistant material, developed for applying high-quality graphics directly to floor areas.
The graphics installed at the Oxford Eye Hospital, which have provided performance way in excess of Autotype's warranty for the product, were manufactured in specific colours to provide optimum clarity for the partially sighted with use made of bright oranges, yellows and greens within strong black key lines.
"The colour is incredibly important", explains Barbara Cripps, Head Nurse Ophthalmology Liaison.
"Our patients are either very young or elderly and many suffer from poor vision.
They rely on the FootPrint system to find their way around the hospital so we are delighted that the colours have remained vibrant and the adhesion is as strong as the day it was installed".
In addition to holding colour and adhesion well, the floor graphics have proved to be extremely easy to clean and highly cost-effective.
"FootPrint's contribution to the day-to-day running of the hospital is immeasurable.
Since having the graphics in place, we have seen a significant reduction in the time it takes patients to find their destination", says Cripps.
"By getting patients to where they should be quickly and easily, the FootPrint system is making a real contribution to improving the efficiency of the hospital".
"The floor graphics have become part of the culture of the hospital now.
Patients would be lost without them", adds Cripps.
"Any extension of the hospital in future will include an extension of the Autotype Footprint system". Request a free brochure from MacDermid Autotype ...
