A wireless transmitter and receiver system that eliminates the need for laying signal cables for control instruments is the latest addition to the range of products offered by Allison Engineering.

The K-Tek DX80 offers a time-saving alternative for connecting process instrumentation to a control room and is particularly useful when upgrading older areas of process plant, when working at remote sites or those where cables are not installed.

The system is powered by a standard 240V and will work with all 4-20mA transmitters sending data between process sensors and higher level systems, for example DCS or Scada for functions of level, pressure, temperature or flow.

It works with dry switch inputs and has a line of sight range of up to three miles with the included antenna.

Designed for robust, secure communication, the DX80 includes two devices: a node (wireless transmitter) that is located in the field and interfaces with the control device; and a gateway (wireless receiver) that is situated in the main control panel and interfaces with a PC or PLC.

Each node accepts up to two analogue and two discrete switch inputs.

Each gateway accepts up to 55 nodes.

The system communicates via a frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) radio system that ensures the message is delivered and is secure.

By hopping from channel to channel, multiple radio networks can use the same frequency range without creating interference.

The DX80 wireless system is portable, flexible and scalable and reliably transmits the status of all I/O points and continuously monitors the health of each and every sensor on a network.

It then delivers a variety of field measurements across the plant, to a PC, PLC or DCS.
