Ohmeters extend to inductive loads

AVO International has extended the capabilities of its popular Ducter DLRO10 and DLRO10X digital low-resistance ohmeters to include accurate resistance measurement for inductive loads.

In response to customer requests, AVO International has extended the capabilities of its popular Ducter DLRO10 and DLRO10X digital low-resistance ohmeters to include accurate resistance measurement for inductive loads, such as transformer and motor windings, and solenoids.

The DLRO10 and DLRO10X were specifically designed to provide a compact, lightweight solution for measuring low resistances accurately both in the field and in the workshop.

The new models, which can be identified by their inclusion of firmware version 2.0 or later, retain these valuable features, and additionally provide a measuring range dedicated for use with inductive loads.

With ranges from 1.9999mohm to 1999.9ohm, and a basic accuracy of 0.2%, the DLRO10 and DLRO10X are particularly versatile instruments, with the DLRO10X offering the additional convenience of real-time result download, together with onboard storage of data for later download to a PC.

In addition to their use in inductive circuits, typical applications for these instruments include checking busbar joints, grounding connections and fuses.

To ensure maximum accuracy under all conditions, a four-wire connection system is used, which cancels out lead resistance, and the measuring current is automatically reversed during the test to eliminate the effect of standing EMFs.

In use, AVO's new digital low-resistance ohmmeters are completely automatic, selecting the most appropriate test current and measuring range for the circuit under test.

For applications where more control is required over the measuring process, the DLRO10X additionally supports manual setting of the test current, and can also display forward and reverse resistance measurements separately, as well as displaying the average of the two.

With the DLRO10, the results are shown on a large, bright 4.5-digit display, while the DLRO10X uses a large backlit liquid crystal display panel.

To ensure operator safety, and enhance ease of use, both instruments are supplied with a pair of 1.2m test leads terminating in duplex handspikes.

One of the probes is fitted with LEDs which confirm that all four contacts have been made, as well as indicating the presence of a high voltage across the load, and showing the presence of current flow while the load is discharging.

An extensive selection of alternative probes and accessories is also available as optional extras.
