Meters survive motorbike mauling

Two Megger test meters have successfully survived a trial even more severe than those meted out by the company's own product proving department.

Two Megger test meters - a BMM403 insulation and continuity tester, and an LT5 digital loop tester - have successfully survived a trial even more severe than those meted out by the company's own product proving department After falling from the back of a motorbike in busy London traffic, the meters were repeatedly run over by fast-moving vehicles, until they were retrieved by their owner, Paul Darcy, Managing Director of The Wiring Company

Following the incident, Darcy returned the meters to Megger's service department for checking, where the only faults found were minor damage to the cases and, in one instrument, a fuse which had become dislodged from its holder.

"When the accident happened, I was returning home after completing a job in a West End theatre", said Darcy.

"I was horrified when the meters, which were in a plastic holdall, slipped from my bike, but I was even more horrified when I saw them repeatedly pounded under the wheels of passing cars".

It was several minutes before a lull in the traffic allowed Darcy to retrieve his invaluable instruments, and then he was pleasantly surprised by how little damage they had sustained.

"I've always bought genuine Megger instruments, as I've found them to be completely dependable", said Darcy, "but I never expected that they'd stand up to this sort of punishment.

Obviously, Megger's reputation for producing top-quality instruments is completely justified".

Designed to withstand the rigours of long-term use in even the most demanding environments, all Megger instruments incorporate high levels of protection against the effects of shock and vibration.

In spite of this, and of Darcy's experiences, the company does not, however, recommend that its products are used in applications where they are likely to be run over repeatedly by cars or other vehicles. Request a free brochure from Megger ...
