At the ETF Kent Apprentice of the Year Awards, EDF Energy's Ian Trim picked up the award for special achievement and a brand new top-of-the-range Megger multifunction tester as a result.

The award cosponsored by Dover-based Megger was made in recognition of the outstanding quality of Trim's work, his consistent attention to detail, and his efforts to achieve the highest possible standards in all circumstances.

The innovative MFT1502 multifunction tester provides all the test functions regularly needed by electrical contractors.

It is designed to be easy to use, rugged and reliable.

The awards are organised on a regional basis by nationwide training organisation, JTL.

Awards were also made to three apprentices who achieved the best results at their particular stage of training - Jayson Powell of PA Contractors, Lee Brodie of Muranda Electrical Services and Steven Groom of Mechelec Engineering Services.

Each of these stage winners received a versatile multimeter from the new Megger range for electrical contractors.

"Megger strongly believes in encouraging young people to reach their full potential and to gain recognised qualifications", said Nick Hilditch, Group Marketing Services Manager at Megger.

"We are, therefore, delighted to provide these rewards, and we've been careful to select products which will not only be immediately useful to the winners, but will continue to serve them well throughout their professional careers".

The award winners were selected from among 7000 entrants nationwide.

Key factors taken into account by the judges were the quality of the apprentices' log books, and detailed information supplied by their tutors and employers.
