Insulation testers suit noisy environments

A Megger product story

Megger's high-voltage insulation testers deliver accurate and reliable results even in noisy electrical environments, such as substation switchyards, where other insulation testers are unusable.

With 4mA noise rejection, supported by sophisticated hardware and software filtering, Megger's new S1-554 and S1-1054 high-voltage insulation testers deliver accurate and reliable results even in noisy electrical environments, such as substation switchyards, where other insulation testers are unusable.

Although the new instruments are delivered with default settings which suit the vast majority of applications, the software filtering can be fine tuned by the user to optimise testing performance in especially demanding applications.

In addition, the new S1-554 and S1-1054 insulation testers deliver a higher charging current than competitive models, which not only reduces the time needed for testing, but also minimises the risk of measurements inadvertently being taken before the test voltage has reached the value set by the user.

The S1-554 insulation tester offers a variable test voltage up to 5kV and measures insulation resistance up to 15Tohms, while the S1-1054 operates at voltages up to 10kV, and measures resistance up to 35Tohms.

The ability to measure such high resistances is an important aid for preventative maintenance, as it allows gradual deterioration of insulation to be detected before a total failure results.

Both of the new testers feature fully automated operation, with the test sequence initiated at the touch of a single button, and they both offer comprehensive facilities for insulation resistance (IR), polarisation index (PI), dielectric absorption ratio (DAR), step voltage (SV) and di-electric discharge (DD) tests.

Mains or battery powered, the S1-554 and S1-1054 insulation testers incorporate large digital/analogue displays which are easy to read in any light conditions, and which show voltage, leakage, capacitance and time constant.

A test duration timer is also incorporated, as is the facility to set pass/fail alarm limits.

The instruments provide real-time data output via RS232 and USB ports, and they also have integral memory which can store test results for subsequent downloading and analysis.

Megger's download manager software, which allows easy transfer of stored data to a PC, is included with both models.
