Belt weigher boosts accuracy
The WC9604 VIV/EER belt weigher provides results that are accurate to +/- 0.25%, meaning that operators do not have to recheck the results on a separate verified system.
Checkweighing installation reduces product loss
John Baarda's new checkweighing installation automatically shunts over filled punnets to checking stations, keeping lost stock to a minimum.
Terminal 5 will have 156 Avery Weigh-Tronix check-in baggage scales installed in the terminal.
Each baggage weighing system consists of an Evolution E1020 digital indicator and display and a weigh frame that integrates into the baggage conveyor.
The baggage check-in area is designed for rapid passenger throughput.
The system weighs continuously and has an overload facility that stops the conveyor for an overweight bag.
Each indicator has a double-sided display, so that both the passenger and the operator can see the information.
A totalising function will allow the bags to be summed into a total weight per passenger, or even to give an overall weight for a group.
Profibus communications will link all the baggage weighers to a central back office system.
This will provide two-way communication with the customer's programmable logic controller (PLC).
The system can capture and analyse weight data to include information such as the number of bags on a flight, their total weight and trends over time.
In addition if a scale stops working or is switched off then the back office PLC system can raise an alarm.
Avery Weigh-Tronix is also supplying 12 in-motion checkweighers for the baggage-sorting conveyor that use an Evolution E1070 weight indicator connected to four load cells.
Each E1070 indicator is linked to the PLC system and is used to control the routing of heavy baggage.
Service engineers from Avery Weigh-Tronix will be commissioning, calibrating and verifying the equipment throughout 2006-07.
The company can self verify the system for weights and measures compliance using its own verification officers.
This allows installation flexibility as the weighing platform can be altered, calibrated and verified without involving a third party.
Vanderlande Industries awarded Avery Weigh-Tronix the contract.
Vanderlande is one of the major supplying partners to BAA that is involved in building T5.
It is fully responsible for the baggage handling system.
