To meet the future requirements of machine tool and measuring machine manufacturers the new BL55 Laserscale combines high-speed capabilities with ultra high accuracy.

The results are an encoder capable of speeds of up to 3m/s with an output signal pitch of 0.4um.

This next generation of linear encoder comprises a laser hologram grating with 1.6um grating pitch scanned by semiconductor laser light source.

The scale is available in either open or enclosed encoder designs, for clean or dirty environments, with measuring lengths to 420 and 1020mm, respectively.

Either sinusoidal 1V peak-peak signals based on the signal pitch of 0.4um or A/B phase (RS422) signals of 50 and 100nm resolution can be specified together with a single point reference option.

The technology is capable of resolutions to 1nm and scales to this specification can be supplied to special order.

The presence of any interpolation error is almost eliminated due to the extremely small signal period.

This is a particularly important feature in the manufacturing process of high precision surfaces and in the accurate control of linear motor systems.

The compact dimensions and large mounting tolerances ensure ease of installation and provide the potential for the BL55 to meet an extremely wide range of positioning applications.

This new scale will be of immediate interest to manufacturers of ultraprecision machining systems and high-accuracy CMMs.
