A new series of submicron high-precision digital gauges provides resolution of 0.1um and high accuracy combined with long travel range within a very compact 8mm diameter body.

Sony Manufacturing Systems Europe has introduced a new series of submicron high-precision digital gauges.

The DK series provides high resolution of 0.1um and high accuracy combined with long travel range within a very compact 8mm diameter body.

Sony has used its latest Magnescale magnetic measuring technology and high speed signal processor to provide a robust and highly accurate digital gauge to meet today's metrology requirements.

The DK gauges are available in 2 and 12mm travel ranges with a choice of 0.1 and 0.5um resolutions.

To provide flexibility for system integrators models include vacuum retract, spring push and pneumatic push options as well as flange mounting.

A total of 14 models result all with IP66 environment rating.

The universal TTL EIA422 output ensures ease of connection to PCs, PLCs and Sony's own new MG serial multi-axis interfaces.

All models include a built in reference point which when used eliminates the need to use a setting master by loading offset reference data during the start up procedure.

The accuracy over the full stroke of the 0.1um models is better than +/-0.5um and as with all Sony's digital encoders no user calibration is required to achieve and maintain this accuracy.

An important feature is the high stability of measurement compared to analogue gauges this combined with high resistance to shock and vibration enables the DK gauge to be confidently used in inline production applications as well as offline ones.

Axis expects that the extreme compactness, high accuracy and proven magnetic reliability of the Sony DK series will find many applications in the automotive component sector particularly in multi-gauging systems and when incorporated with the Sony MG serial interfaces.
