Compression lug boosts reliability

An Amphenol Industrial Operations product story

SurLok provides a secure connection to ensure voltage and amperage levels are maintained throughout the duration of the application.

A new version of Amphenol Industrial Operations' Radsok-based SurLok field-installable compression lug offers lower insertion force and greater durability.

They are particularly suitable for use where increased amperage is required to sustain generated electricity levels, typical examples being in wind energy, process control and railway applications.

SurLok provides a secure connection to ensure voltage and amperage levels are maintained throughout the duration of the application.

The head of the pin locks into place when mated with the Radsok connector and a plastic housing then clips over the connector as a protective cover.

Industry-standard colour codes specify the wire size needed for the crimp barrel on the compression lug.

Any U-indent/clamshell or four-indenter crimp tool can be used to perform the crimp termination on the wire, eliminating the need to purchase a special crimp tool that would increase overall maintenance costs.

The Amphenol Radsok contact technology used in the SurLok connectors increases ampacity significantly, while reducing insertion force, temperature rise and voltage drop.

Radsok contacts provide a large contact area, while using the tensile strength properties of the flat, alloy grid for the low resistance required for conductivity.

The combination of increased contact area and high tensile strength correlate to increased electricity generation in wind power applications.

SurLok is available in four sizes with seven ampacity options; a 3.6mm contact (70A with 8 AWG), a 5.7mm contact (120A with 6 AWG or 4 AWG), an 8mm contact (200A with 1 AWG or 2 AWG) and a 10.3mm contact (350A with 1/0 AWG or 2/0 AWG).

SurLok mating pins are available for all four sizes with a metric threaded stud.
