Barksdale Control Products, the German and US based manufacturer of pressure, level, flow and temperature sensors, has set up a new wholly owned operating division in the UK

Barksdale Control Products, the German and US based manufacturer of pressure, level, flow and temperature sensors, has set up a new wholly owned operating division in the UK and opened its first UK office, in Basingstoke.

To date, the company's products have been available in the UK only through distributors and, although distribution will still form an important route to market, Barksdale Control Products will also be targeting OEM accounts directly.

As the company's new Sales Manager for the UK and Ireland, David Thomas, explains, "Traditionally, Barksdale has been known for its mechanical flow, level, temperature and pressure sensors and, although we are continuing to manufacture and develop these products, we are also introducing a new generation of electronic instruments.

These are extremely advanced, offering end users considerable benefits in terms of functionality, performance and reliability, making them equally suitable for both high volume and specialised applications.

We will therefore be working with our distributors and OEM customers to help them maximise the opportunities from this new technology".

The first of this new generation of products is the microprocessor controlled UDS7 pressure switch, which is an extremely reliable, stable instrument, with an operating life at least ten times greater than a traditional mechanical device.

The new switch features an alphanumeric dot matrix display, tactile membrane keys for data input, plus LEDs to show set points and alarms, and is ideal for a wide range of applications, including all hydraulic equipment, injection moulding machines, engine test units and process lines.

Outputs can be analogue or digital, with RS232 connections enabling each unit to be connected directly to higher level monitoring and control systems.

David Thomas believes that the UK market offers considerable opportunity for Barksdale Control Products.

"We have already started recruited a number of key distributors of which included Hawco and ACAL and have identified a number of potential high volume applications in both traditional manufacturing and process sectors, where our new products and technology can play an important role in improving the performance of production, measurement and monitoring systems".
