Pressure switch aimed to last ten times
longer

A new long-life electronic pressure switch has been designed to operate up to ten times longer than traditional mechanical devices and with far greater functionality

For over 30 years the name Barksdale Control Products has been synonymous with the manufacturing of high-quality products including pressure, level, flow and temperature sensors The years of experience coupled with unrivalled expertise has culminated in 2001 with Barksdale Control Products launching the Electronic Dual Pressure Switch UDS7, a new long-life electronic pressure switch

Designed to operate up to ten times longer than traditional mechanical devices and with far greater functionality, the USD7 also offers considerable cost savings.

David Thomas, UK and Ireland Sales Manager at Barksdale explains: "We know from experience the hidden costs in operating mechanical devices.

Longer installation times, regular adjustments, preventative maintenance all contribute to increased costs.

The UDS7, on the other hand, is up to 25 per cent less expensive to purchase and operate and enjoys a much longer life." While direct cost savings are significant other savings can also be made.

For example, system parameters may be updated without interruption of production, actual pressure is displayed without an additional manometer and the integrated failsafe monitoring system removes the need for preventative maintenance.

The microprocessor-controlled switch has been designed with flexibility in mind which means it is suitable for a wide range of applications including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, injection moulding machines, engine test units and process lines.

The switch is also designed to be easy to use: installation, setting up and operation is done with a surprising amount of ease considering the sophistication of the device.

The UDS7 offers high levels of accuracy, typically ñ 0.5 % f.s., repeatability <0.1% fs, no setpoint drift and measurement ranges from 0 - 200 mbar to 0 - 1000 bar.

Additional features include a menu driven microprocessor controlled tactile keypad for data input, with option of either an alphanumeric 4-digit dot-matrix or LCD display, LEDs for switching mode, an LED for alarm/error mode, onboard diagnostics, a range of outputs, as well as several safety functions including self-test after switch on.

Another useful feature is the "Maximum Peak and Minimum Peak" facility, which stores the minimum, and maximum pressure a system has been subjected to and is able to be displayed locally.

The benefits offered by these features are considerable.

It is possible to lock the front panel to avoid unauthorised tampering and the alarm indicators on the panel are able to monitor more than one pressure level and stagger warnings in the event of errors, and record maximum and minimum pressures.

Onboard diagnostics mean any irregularities are detected quickly.

Finally, the range of output options including RS232 and Profibus DP on the UDS7 allows it to be connected to other digital equipment or higher level controlling equipment.

Barksdale Control Products is confident that the UDS7 will become as popular in the UK as it is in Germany and Italy where the switch is already being used in the automotive and plastics industries to great effect. Request a free brochure from Barksdale Control Products ...
