The accreditation officially recognises the UDS7-Ex dual pressure switch's ability to operate in hazardous areas and means Barksdale's long-life switch will be fully compliant with the new EU safety Directive when it comes into force in July 2003.
This latest approval rating bolsters the UDS7-Ex's existing certification, which includes an intrinsically safe standard for category G1 and G2 and IP65 protection classification.
It also highlights the suitability of the UDS7-Ex for specification in industrial environments which involve gas, dust or fumes that can be ignited by a spark or a flame.
Designed for a number of industrial or process applications, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, injection moulding machines and engine test units, the UDS7-Ex has a extended operating life that is up to 10 times longer than traditional mechanical devices and has added a display and 4-20mA analogue output.
Its versatility and durability are also matched by its performance specifications, which include high levels of accuracy (+/-0.5% full scale), extensive measurement ranges (from 0-10 to 0-400bar) and exceptional operating-temperature parameters (0 to +60C, temperature class T4).
Additional features include a menu-driven, tactile keypad for data input and an alphanumeric four-digit display for indicating actual pressure, peak pressure and special configurations.
The microprocessor-controlled pressure switch also features onboard diagnostics, a range of outputs and several safety functions, including self-test after switch on.
David Thomas, UK and Ireland Sales Manager at Barksdale said: "Compliance with ATEX 100 provides an official acknowledgement of the UDS7-Ex's capabilities in extreme and hazardous conditions.
It also recognises the electronic pressure switch's ability to provide accurate and repeatable measurements over an extended life span".
The UDS7-Ex electronic dual pressure switch can store minimum and maximum pressure readings, has a lockable front panel to avoid unauthorised tampering and can be set to monitor multiple pressure levels.
