At Hanover Fair Baldor Europe will preview a new family of advanced adjustable-speed AC drives, with an initial choice of low power drives covering applications up to 45kW.

Designated H2, the drives feature a modular expansion bus and option range that allows users to configure optimum solutions for every AC drive application, from simple speed control to advanced positioning and sophisticated movements - with local I/O and networking communications for IT integration including Ethernet.

The drives are an all-new successor to Baldor's well-known H drive family.

They have been engineered for reliability and ease of use, and provide a solution to all drive application requirements through a choice of open- or closed-loop control, including inverter, encoderless vector, and closed-loop vector operational modes.

A built-in expansion bus extends flexibility, providing the means to configure drives with application-specific I/O, and fieldbus networking communications; among the communications options are the ability to install Ethernet/TCPIP, Ethernet/IP (DeviceNet on Ethernet) or Ethernet Powerlink.

The plug-in option range also features a powerful motion control module compatible with Baldor's renowned Mint motion software.

This option will convert drives into complete stand-alone solutions - providing users with a highly sophisticated programming capability that is expected to bring a new level of flexibility to sophisticated AC drive applications.

Ease of use is a major focus of the new H2 drive design.

A large graphical display has been incorporated with the keypad to optimise the functionality of local operator control.

Point-and-click configuration is also possible from a desktop PC using the supplied Workbench Windows application program.

Baldor believes H2 will be the most reliable industrial drives available on the commercial market, thanks to its design strategy which includes FMEA (failure mode and effect analysis), and a high quality manufacturing process that includes in-circuit and functional testing of each subassembly, stress testing and full-load testing of final products.

Baldor is currently demonstrating its initial range which covers power ratings from 0.75 to 45kW (1 to 60hp).

However, when the full range is launched in Europe later in 2005, the power range will extend to over 1000kW to cover the vast majority of AC drive requirements.
