Conference cracks the codes of machine
safety
One-day conference will provide a comprehensive overview of machinery safety issues in the light of current and upcoming standards, and will examine their practical application through case studies.
BARA, the British Automation and Robotics Association, is organising a one-day conference on machine safety at the historic Bletchley Park on 21st June, 2007 The conference, being run in association with Drives and Controls, will provide a comprehensive overview of machinery safety issues in the light of current and upcoming standards, and will examine their practical application through case studies

Jargon buster cuts through the ATEX jungle
ABB has published an "ATEX jargon buster" that helps motor users cut through the jungle of terms and definitions that make up the new ATEX Directives.
Delegates will also get an opportunity to take a guided tour of the site of Britain's code-breaking activities during WWII, and the birthplace of the modern computer.
They will be among the first to see a fully working, rebuilt version of the Turing Bombe - the machine that was used to crack the Enigma codes.
The Bombe, which remained a secret for almost 50 years, is currently being commissioned before being opened officially in July.
The conference, sponsored by Laidler Associates, is aimed at specifiers and designers of machinery and safety-related electrical control systems, as well as managers and engineers responsible for machinery safety.
Speakers will be confirmed shortly.
The last BARA safety conference attracted several speakers from the HSE, as well as leading automation suppliers and system integrators.
"Feedback from previous safety conferences has been extremely positive, with delegates gaining an excellent insight into what is really involved with projects where functional safety has to be addressed", says Dr Richard Piggin, Chairman of BARA's Safety Special Interest Group.
