Guide helps with relay upgrades
A new application note aims to help designers upgrade legacy protective relays.
It is available for download free of charge from the software tools area of the download section.
The BE1-CDS240 is a three-phase multifunction numerical relay that provides percentage restrained differential protection along with overcurrent, voltage, frequency, breaker failure, control, metering, monitoring, and alarm functions in an integrated system.
It is available with two, three or four sets of low-impedance three-phase restraint inputs; however all configurations include one set of three-phase voltage inputs and an independent ground input for earth fault and ground differential (restricted earth fault, 87ND).
All versions also include harmonic restraint as well as phase shift and tap compensation for use in transformer applications.
The BE1-CDS220 also is a multifunction numerical relays that provides percentage restrained differential protection along with overcurrent, breaker failure, control, metering, monitoring, and alarm functions.
A second spreadsheet focusing on the BE1-87T transformer differential relay also is available.
This spreadsheet also may be useful to any user of differential relays, as calculations of CT saturation factor and tap mismatch are universal.
To aid customers in getting the most from Basler products, the website offers settings spreadsheets for specific BE1 relay systems and time-current characteristic curves spreadsheets.
Anyone who needs to perform basic complex number calculations, sequence component conversions, and some other basic calculations associated with electric power systems should explore the electric calculations spreadsheet.
A tutorial on how Fourier analysis calculations are handled also is available.
